Installation instructions for
LEX-19-EL Nose Conversion
We have made the installation of this Super Sort Nose Conversion as
easy as possible, yet, we do advise you read the entire
instructions CAREFULLY. Take your time and use some
craftsmanship. The end results will be worth your effort!
Tools Needed: Wrench & Socket Set, Phillips Screwdriver, Drill
& Drill Bit Set
Optional Tools: Wire Cutters, Crimpers, & Attachment Clips
Place both nose and fender extensions on the ground, as they will
be installed on the vehicle. Line up front extensions with
nose so they align properly. Drill three ¼” holes, (evenly,
top to bottom), on both sides, from fender extension to nose.
Install grill by first removing sheet metal screws and tinnerman
nuts. Place grill in fascia opening and align as
needed. With pen or pencil mark pre-drilled grill holes onto
fascia opening. Remove grill and drill markings. Do not
reinstall grill.
Remove front bumper (4 bolts per bumper shock). Remove both
rubber filler sides attached to bottom of front fender (save the
screws as they will be used to install your fascia). It is
also helpful to remove your battery for easier access to fascia
side attachment points. Remember bolt removal for
reinstallation.
The next step is to convert your bumper for installation with
fascia. From center factory hole in bumper, measure out 29
inches and cut ends of bumper off. Next step is to measure
from center out again to 15 inches and mark. From bottom of
bumper, measure up 4 inches, for turn signal clearances (figure
1). Lauren Engineering makes no warranty, implied or
otherwise, that this product offers any protection what-so-ever, in
the event of an accident or crash
Reinstall bumper loosely.
Place top radiator bracket on top of radiator support with 4
factory header panel bolts. Remove headlight bezels and
install your bulbs. Reinstall headlights back into fascia and
tape back into place. The tape will be removed after fascia
is fitted.
Place and attach side fender extensions onto nose. Bend down
header panel brackets located on top outside of radiator core
support. Pick fascia up from shroud opening and place upper
lip over radiator top bracket (figure 2). Place fascia on vehicle
as it will be installed. From under vehicle, mark factory
holes, with pen or pencil, on back of nose where rubber fillers
used to attach to front fender.
At this time, check the nose fitting up against front fender.
If there are gaps, use a sanding block with 80 grit sandpaper and
trim for proper fit For additional fitting, please
refer to “Special notes and Adjusting the Fit” attached.
Next, mark fascia for fender attachment. You will find three holes
on the front of each fender where the header panel bolted to
it. Reach through with a pen or pencil, from the back side of
the fender and mark on the back of your fascia.
Place 2” masking tape where fender extension insert hole must be
drilled. Place fender extension against fender and attach to
pre-drilled holes in the fascia, loosely. Pull extension back
far enough to mark insert hole with pen or pencil. Do this by
looking down from the top, and placing mark on tape where top
center of insert lays. Next, mark side of insert by sticking
marker between extension and fender and mark side center of
insert. Remove fender extension and extend marks so they
meet, for hole placement. Drill ½” hole so insert head has
room for adjustment.
Remove fascia from vehicle and drill all holes marked for fender
attachment. Reinstall fender extensions securely to
fascia. Install fascia to vehicle and attach sides of fascia
with factory header panel bolts into sides of fenders and factory
rubber filler side screws.
From back side of fender install ¼ x 20 x ½” hex bolt, large thick
washer, large thin washer, and ½” small washer into fender
extension. Insert loosely. Next, drill hole from
extension tab into wheel-well and attach with ½” sheet metal screw
and small washer. Pull slightly out a back bottom of
extension and install final ½” sheet metal screw and washer.
Repeat for the opposite side.
From inside hood area, lift fascia slightly and drill 1/8”
hole from fascia to top radiator bracket, 2” off center - both
sides. Close hood gently and notate hood placement with
fascia. Lift or push down to align fascia with hood. A
total of six ¾” sheet metal screws and small washers will be
installed in top bracket. Re-open hood and bend back up steel
header support brackets. Drill and install ¼ x 20 x ¾” bolts
after aligning top corner.
It is time to attach headlights. With 3/8” and 5/16”
wrenches, loosen L-brackets attached to headlight side
brackets. Install two ¼ x 20 x ¾” hex bolts, washers and
lock-nuts from headlight side bracket to radiator core
support. (Holes are pre-drilled, and bolt to factory holes in
radiator core support)..Once secured, push headlights as far
forward into fascia headlight opening as possible, but do not
tighten for adjustment reasons.
To install the grill, you must first position yourself between the
radiator and bumper (be sure to take a drill and Phillips screw
driver with you). Once positioned, install grill with sheet
metal screws and black tinnerman nuts behind for tightening.
If screws do not want to go all the way though, it is because the
screws are hitting the headlight brackets. In this case you
must drill an additional hole through headlight bracket, and
re-fasten grill.
When fascia is fully attached, adjusted and tightened, it is
time to reinstall wiring to headlights and turn signals. Turn
signals are factory replacement, the same as headlights from 1982
to 1987. On the 1978 and 1981 models some wiring modification must
be made. Place existing headlamp connector on outside
headlamp. With a wire connector, splice into the Green and
Black wire and place it to second headlamp connector. Plug
into inside headlamp.
Headlights are adjusted in or out, up or down, by using
spacer washers on outer headlight brackets, or by sliding inner
headlight L-brackets in or out on top or bottom. These steps
are for major headlight adjustment. Phillips screw adjusting,
(for fine adjustments) are located on either side and bottom of
bulbs. Re-check all mounting points for tightening and adjust
headlights.
